Well our most enthusiastic readers! Today was the opening ceremony of the World Masters Surfing Competition. And boy! what an event it was!
The day started at a leisurely pace with an early morning (YES for ONCE the team were awake and raring to go! The BAT JUICE is now on a side burner as they cram high energy food and fruit juices into themselves, but I as the Cameraman cant do that, the BAT JUICE calls me, and I have to obey!) and we set off for Domes where the main event is to be held. But the lads um’d and argh’d and after I had set up camera decided to surf Maria’s again ( previous post I referred to Maria’s as “Skull Rock Certain Death Break” I guess they sound familiar, but to tell the truth “Skull Rock Certain Death Break” sounds better than Maria’s) So we arrived at Maria’s (AKA “Skull Rock Certain Death Break”) and the place was packed staging all over the place, but the Puerto Ricans have really pulled the stops out and provided some class stuff for the comp.
The lads went out and all of them are near tip top condition, a few minor adjustments to fins, a slight tweak of the leash, a little more wax on the boards, (Roge needs to shave his head closer for dynamics) and they will be flying.
After the rigmarole of the “Managers Meeting”, which left us driving here there and everywhere, the reality hit home. The rules were read out! And to tell the truth, as a lay person, this thing is VERY professional. But the lads know the score, they have all been there. Time now to focus and get ready for the BIG start tomorrow!
The Opening Ceremony itself was a long HOT drawn out affair, but none the less a really enjoyable event, to see so many nationalities and cultures together where the purpose is to defeat one another, yet, to be so friendly was something you don’t often see, Glad I have seen it! Old friends met new friends. Speeches were made, and the music played. All finished off with a splendid local dance. You have to give credit to the Puerto Ricans, they have welcomed us with open arms, and the opening ceremony was another example of the hospitality of this wonderful country.
Anyway you poor long suffering readers, the Blog updates must now be done each evening as the mornings here in Puerto Rico begin at 6am. Tomorrow will see ALL our Lads in their heats. Watch it first here, nearly live!
Till then, keep your comments coming in, we need your backing, we are a long way from home! And hope you are all safe? We hear you are having a touch of bad weather there in good old Blighty?
Sorry for the late posting of this, but I had problems with Final Cut Pro (video editing software) and my Bat Juice! The two do not go well together

am trying to type this out with tears rolling down my face, I shall be playing
this over and over all day and seeing you all out there cruising down those waves
doing 360s and riding the crest, we are all rooting for all you lads. God Bless you
all. Good luck in all the heats, keep cool we know you can and will co it.
