World Master Surf championship 2007

The ISA recently announced that the Federacion de Surfing de Puerto Rico (FSPR) has been selected as the organisers of the 2nd World Masters Championship

The venue will be around Rincon with its fabulous warm waters. With truly awesome breaks. The Championship will feature surfers from over 15 countries including Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Great Britain, Italy, Jamaica, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Sweden, Tahiti and Venezuela.

The Events are:-

Masters (35 to 39 years)
Grandmasters (40 – 44 years)
Kahunas (45 years and over)

The British Team consists of:-

Jed Stone (Kahunas)
Gary Rogers (Kahunas)

Daz Wright (Grandmasters)
Roger Knight (Grandmasters)

Grishka Roberts (Masters)
Lee Bartlett (Masters)

This is a really strong team! They hold over 57 previous & current first place English, British & European titles between them! Hopefully at least one World Champion is in there. This is the British Teams big chance to come home with a fist full of titles.

I have been selected as the Official Cameraman for the British Surfing Association. This is one assignment I am really looking forward to, not just the sun kissed beaches, warm seas, fine foods, and copious amounts of drink, but the chance to film a truly memorable event. An Event that has long been missing from the ISA calendar. The film footage will be edited by Methodproductions and Boomerang. These guys will be submitting the final edits to Channel 4, BBC, ITV, Sky Sports and a host of other TV Channels with a view to coverage on National TV. You never know, if there is enough interest we could be on LIVE TV.

This journal will be a daily report on what happens each day, I intend to post pictures and streaming video for you to enjoy.

In the meantime this event is starting to attract a lot of interest, and Lesley Stone ( email lesley@gemstonebears.fsnet.co.uk )
who is the British Masters Surf Team PR Manager, is drumming up potential sponsers for the team.
If you or your company are interested in sponsoring the British Masters Surf Team get in touch with Lesley, but be quick as the sponsorship deals are running out fast!
The World Masters Surfing Comp is going to be big, there is already a lot of interest in the competition and there is a lot of talk about the British Team and their ability to win this one. So get behind the team and lets hope we bring something back.

Well things are going well for the trip to Puerto Rico. I have a new passport, which is good, because I washed my old one, Persil and Passports don’t mix. For the video side of things I will be using a Canon XL1S 20 x zoom lens with a 1.6 extender giving over 30 x optical zoom.
For the photographs I will be using the Canon 30D with a 300mm F2.8 USM IS L lens with a 1.4 and 2 x extenders. That should give enough reach to get in amongst the action
We are contacting the Airlines to see if I can take the cameras on the flight to Puerto Rico, we don’t want them getting thrown around in the baggage hold.
We are also trying to get all the members of the British Surf Team together at Fistral beach early in January for a photo and film shoot. Hoping the waves are good and the weather is kind to us. If all goes well I should be posting some sick photos of the Surfers before we all head off to Puerto Rico for the World Masters Surfing Competition.
The flights by the way are on 15th January 2007

Until the next update, this is Kevin Stone, reporting for SMSC Films signing off :-)
